saving time.
This discount costume jewelry I saw at Holsted Jewelers caught my eye. I was telling hubby about it this morning and he reminded me that I do not need it at the moment.I have other accessories in my closet waiting for me to wear them. I could not blame him, he was a witness to my impulsive shopping sprees for the past weeks and I promise to stop now. In fact, a friend and I started a "paluwagan" type of savings. We are going to support each other until end of the year not to withdraw a single centavo from that collected fund. Hubby and I also hope to be able to give back whatever blessings we have been receiving this year through some form of charity. So no, although Holsted Jewelries are just irresistable, I have to say no to online shopping for now.

MY DIET FILES: It's Now or Never.

I got this message yesterday through Facebook's God Wants You To Know Application:
______ got a message that on this day, God wants her to know... ... that you are what you eat. It's just so funny as I was munching on Chippy while drinking 1 can of coke alternately when I got this lol! I guess I really have to be consistent with watching my health, if not dieting and losing weight for aesthetic purposes.
Food you eat becomes you, so take a good look at the food in front of you, - is this what you want to call yourSelf? What kind of food deserves to be called by your name?
Just after the day ended, a couple of friends have started something which I am part of. I could not divulge the details here, but we are going to do something really promising, losing-weight-wise until the end of this year. No, noting artificial, it's going to be au naturelle!
Watch me lose not only 10 lbs but I will push to 20 or even more, so help me God :).

customized business cards
An Aunt who recently passed her real estate licensure in another state requested me to design her new business cards. She needs to have a new set of business cards to include new information about other cities and states she now covers for her services. I do not have time to make business cards from scratch because of hectic requirements in school. Good thing, I saw this make your own business cards feature at 123print.com. I have seen lots of unique designs that I might choose for my Aunt. I hope she likes them or else I do not have a choice but to make one from scratch and make time for it.

Satellite TV
I chanced upon these SC TV Deals as I was finalizing the programme and game for this afternoon's Bridal Shower Party. If only we are not contracted with our current cable service company, I would have bring this up with hubby and get a satellite tv subscription, instead. Directv offers the best deals on Satellite Television from both Direct TV and Dish Network according to your location. Kaptain Satellite has a lot of best deals, promotions and packages on Directv and Dish Network all at one easy website. Check out the site and compare it, you'd see how much you can save.

Lasang Pinoy #36 (Whip EAT!)

I'm back! :)
Who doesn't love whip cream? I could gobble up a whole pack if only I would not think about how many calories it would give me.
But, I love them most in my beverage. Here's a home-made capuccino with whipped cream and my favorite chocolate shake at Red Lobster. Happy Lapis!

the Chief.
My son are fascinated by cops and firefighters. You would be surprised that a huge smile is plastered all over his face whenever he sees police cars and fire trucks. I was telling him that these people carry very hard responsibilities and sometimes, even gadgets and attires. Speaking of, this whelen distributor site offers gears for Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement and Surveying industries since 1977. They have very competitive pricing, fast delivery and high customer satisfaction rate. real-deal meals.
I have not been sharing recipes for quite some time now. Truth is, I have not been whipping any interesting dishes for the past weeks because of a very busy and hectic schedule. I am also too busy to take photos of what hubby cooks during the weekends so my apologies on that. I will post more recipes shortly. But for the meantime, I am excited for my parents' arrival because that means more sumptous dishes on our dining table care of my mom who is a very good cook and baker :). So watch out that I will share her recipes here. Their arrival is in time for my thesis and graduation (crossing fingers), their presence would be such a huge help. You see, completing a Graduate degree or any bachelor's degreen whether taking a degree online or on campus can be really nerve-wracking. But, if you do not have much time to spare on education but you have the perseverance to further your education, taking online classes is the trend now. You can check out Capella.Edu for more information on this.

feeling stressed?
Okay, with all of the helping I have been doing to a friend who recently moved to their apartment, I landed on this site called HotTubWorks.com which sells ideal spa covers and other home spas. Wowowow! I would love to have one at home. Imagine, I have a massage chair and a hot tub or spa like room in my house, no need to go out for rejuvenation trips to spa. Some of my friends find me weird because when we used to go to a nearby gym, I would stay for an hour at the hot tub. I love the feeling that I am able to sweat more there than when I do my workout routines heheh. Anyways, if you want to see their other products, check out HotTubWorks.com.

a masseuse right in your own home.
I was talking to my friend, M who just recently moved to Manitoba, Canada. She sent me some pictures of her apartment in Canada and was telling me that the apartment is bare. She was thinking of getting a Massage Chair for herself. You see, M and I are both massage and spa addicts back in Manila. We would usually visit the spa once a week and request for home massages at least 2-3 times a week. Of course, these stuff are luxuries when in the United States of Canada. But with a massage chair right in the comforts of your home, you may get the same amount of relaxation you can get when you hire a home masseuse :). I remembered M and I tried this massage chair in a store while waiting for my mom to finish her shopping. At first we were giggling because it was kinda ticklish but then when we got the hang of it, we almost slept with the relaxing experience! Speaking of massage chairs, you might want to visit HumanTouch.com. What is nice about this company is their Human Touch® trademark that distributes the most advanced robotic massage technology and systems in their industry-leading massage chairs. Most of their massage chairs were analyzed by leading massage therapists, chiropractors and physicians, and applying decades of experience as the world leader in massage technology, Human Touch engineers have developed the most advanced Robotic Massage® systems ever devised. You can actually have a feel of a true full body massage in just 15 minutes sitting on these chairs. I guess this is the reason my friend, M is convinced to get one :).

Speaking of Zenni, did you hear the article about Zenni Optical on TV!!! Yes, the site that sells cheap but quality eyeglasses have been featured on TV many times. 2 Bridal Showers.
Bridal showers are one of the most exciting parties girlfriends threw their friends who are soon-to-be-brides. I was honored with 2 suprise bridal showers a few years back by my ex-colleagues and highschool friends. Both parties were well-attended and both were truly memorable. My friends went out of their way to make customized Shower Bridal Invitations similar to the invitations bridal shower, lingerie shower invitations and rehearsal dinner invitations at http://www.cardsshoppe.com/. The party with my ex-colleagues was pretty wholesome but the bridal shower with my highschool friends was what you would expect in every bridal shower :). I won't dare share any photos online :).
How about you, care to share the highlights of your bridal shower party?

H20.
Here is a pretty interesting article I got from Eds. I assure you it's a good long read. Worth it. So before I check on this uppababy vista stroller, let me share this with you.
While experts have long recommended drinking eight glasses of water a day, most people come up about three glasses short. “Many people just don’t like the taste of water,” says Joy Bauer, RD, a nutritionist in New York City. “And that’s okay. There are many other beverages out there that are beneficial to your health.”
In fact, reaching for the right drink at the right time can help you beat PMS, think more clearly, cure a headache, and more. So next time you’re thirsty, make the most it by pouring yourself a glass of good health.
You Need Help…Increasing Your Energy
Grab a Lemonade
Sip this summertime favorite if you need some extra pep in the mornings or a lift during a late-afternoon slump. Research conducted by neurologist Alan R. Hirsch, MD, director of the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago, indicates that the taste of lemons can fight fatigue by stimulating a nerve in the nose, which in turn sets off “wake up” sensors in the brain.
You Need Help…Waking Up in the Morning
Grab a Light Coffee
Go ahead and pour a cup of java when you’re dragging at the start of the day. “The caffeine will energize your nervous system, so you’ll feel more clear-headed and alert,” says Bauer. Just make sure you stick with low-fat or skim milk and avoid adding heaping teaspoons of sugar. Drinks with heavy cream and lots of sugar hurt your waistline, and the initial buzz they provide ends quickly, causing your energy to nosedive. Light milk, however, supplies needed protein and a steady dose of carbs that will keep your blood sugar on a more even keel for longer.
You Need Help…Dealing with PMS
Grab a Milk Shake
Food cravings hit right before your period every month, so why not indulge your sweet tooth with a drink that can prevent (and ease) cramps and other symptoms of PMS? Research conducted at the University of Massachusetts Amherst found that a diet rich in calcium and vitamin D helps reduce the risk of PMS by as much as 40 percent, possibly by altering estrogen levels. So whip up this low-cal treat: Blend 1 cup skim milk with 1 cup frozen strawberries. For just 160 calories you’ll get 25 percent of your RDA of calcium and vitamin D.
Got this from Eds.

Brunch at Le Pain Quotidien.
To cap off our weekend in D.C., we had breakfast/brunch at a very quaint authentic French Bakery and Communal Table restaurant in Arlington called Le Pain Quotidien. I give perfect 10 for service, ambience, rates and taste. Everything was just good about this place, we will surely come back. The rates may be a little high for a breakfast nook but it's totally worth it. Even my son's brownies was just so perfect! So before I head off and check this term life insurance rates, let me share some of the food we had there.

Tagay on 4th of July.
Like what I have mentioned, our 4th of July weekend in D.C. was super fun and it was something memorable :). I guess that would be our 1st and last time to go to D.C. on a 4th of July weekend because traffic can be so bad, both human and vehicular hee hee. But it was something for the books, at least we get to experience July 4 on the Capital State. Nevertheless, the company of friends G&J was just so great that we have already lined up NY and Boston trips come fall (crossing fingers!).
Anyways, after almost 2 years of no alcoholic drink (save for some red wine and beer drinking session with hubby), we had inuman till wee hours of the morning at our hotelroom in Mariott. Thanks heavens as our son was sleeping soundly. Here's sharing photos of what we had.

Vinegar and its uses.
Vinegar has been proven to be one of the useful and environment-friendly cleaning materials. Check out these tips. 1. Streakless windows:Simply wash with a mixture of equal parts of white distilled vinegar and warm water. Dry with a soft cloth. This solution will make your windows gleam and will not leave the usual film or streaks on the glass.
2. Clean the microwave:Boil a solution of 1/4 cup of white distilled vinegar and 1 cup of water in the microwave. Will loosen splattered on food and deodorize.
3. Clean the refrigerator:Wash with a solution of equal parts water and white distilled vinegar.
4. Clean and disinfect wood cutting boards:Wipe with full strength white distilled vinegar.
5. Bathtub film:Bathtub film can be removed by wiping with white distilled vinegar and then with soda. Rinse clean with water.
6. Toilet bowl cleaner:Stubborn stains can be removed from the toilet by spraying them with white distilled vinegar and brushing vigorously. The bowl may be deodorized by adding 3 cups of white distilled vinegar. Allow it to remain for a half hour, then flush.
7. Kill weeds:Spray white distilled vinegar full strength on tops of weeds. Reapply on any new growth until plants have starved.
8. Keep Flowers LongerKeep flowers fresh longer. Add 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 tablespoons white vinegar in a 1-quart vase of water. Trim stems and change water every five days.
9.Cleaner for Gold Jewelry (Winner of June 2007 Vinegar Online Use Contest)Use one
cup apple cider vinegar. Submerge solid gold jewelry item in vinegar for 15 minutes. Remove and dry with cloth.
10. Freshen baby clothes:The addition of 1 cup of white distilled vinegar to each load of baby clothes during the rinse cycle will naturally break down uric acid and soapy residue leaving the clothes soft and fresh.
11. Clothes washing magic:Clothes will rinse better if 1 cup of white distilled vinegar is added to the last rinse water. The acid in vinegar is too mild to harm fabrics, but strong enough to dissolve the alkalies in soaps and detergents.
12. Keeping colors fast:To hold colors in fabrics, which tend to run, soak them for a few minutes in white distilled vinegar before washing.
13. Fruit and vegetable wash:Add 2 tablespoons white distilled vinegar to 1 pint water and use to wash fresh fruits and vegetables, then rinse thoroughly. Research has shown that vinegar helps kill bacteria on fruits and vegetables.
14. Get rid of cooking smells:Let simmer a small pot of vinegar and water solution.

CALAMANSI and its Benefits.
Calamansi is hard to find in America and if I find one store that sells this, they sell it very expensive. So we ended up buying lemon, lime or THIS as substitute. Anyways, Calamansi is a very famous citrus for both Medicinal and Food usage. Read on.
There are many benefits that we could get from calamansi:
Medicinal Use:
1. for shampooing the hair, or the fruit juice applied to the scalp after shampooing. It eliminates itching and promotes hair growth.
2. Rubbing calamondin juice on insect bites banishes the itching and irritation
3. It bleaches freckles and helps to clear up acne vulgaris and pruritus vulvae. It is taken orally as a cough remedy and antiphlogistic
4. lightly diluted and drunk warm, it serves as a laxative
5. Combined with pepper, it is prescribed in Malaya to expel phlegm.
6. The root enters into a treatment given at childbirth
7. The distilled oil of the leaves serves as a carminative with more potency than peppermint oil. The volatile oil content of the leaves is 0.90% to 1.06%
Food Uses:
1. Calamondin halves or quarters may be served with iced tea, seafood and meats, to be squeezed for the acid juice
2. Some people boil the sliced fruits with cranberries to make a tart sauce
3. Calamondins are also preserved whole in sugar sirup, or made into sweet pickles, or marmalade
4. Whole fruits, fried in coconut oil with various seasonings, are eaten with curry
5. The juice is primarily valued for making acid beverages
6. t is often employed like lime or lemon juice to make gelatin salads or desserts, custard pie or chiffon pie
7. In the Philippines, the extracted juice, with the addition of gum tragacanth as an emulsifier, is pasteurized and bottled commercially

Living a Healthy Life: 20 Ways to eat better now.
This is really a good information I got from Dez. They say the best way to cut out the unwanted fats is to live a healthier lifestyle and eat the right food instead of dieting. This article sums it up.
Based on current nutritional science, here are simple tips that can add up to dramatic dividends in your health. A few simple substitutions and easy dietary changes can point you down the path to eating right and living better. The list here is by no means definitive — nor are these tips in the order of importance.
1. Use the smallest plate that will accommodate your food. For most of us, the number-one nutriti
on concern is controlling calories, so nutrition experts
emphasize portion control. A large plate begs to be filled edge to edge; smaller
plates train your eyes to serve up smaller portions.
2. Forget “family style.” Another idea to keep portions in check while also discouraging a second helping is to serve from the stove instead of putting a serving bowl on the table.
3. Make double vegetables – and serve them first. Instead of making vegetables an afterthought, try making veggies the focus of your cooking
creativity. Whatever vegetable dish you whip up, make extra for a return
engagement later in the week, so you can serve two vegetables. Serve the veggies
first, so they dominate the plate and there’s less room for the meat.
4. Think before you spread. Newer whole-grain breads are tasty, without the added calories and fat of butter or margarine. A tablespoon of butter, olive oil or
margarine adds 90 calories; even “heart-healthy” spreads contain 70 calories
that your waistline might be healthier without.
5. Go vegetarian one night a week. Nutrition experts suggest planning one meatless meal a week. Vegetarian
meals can help you cut back on saturated fats and increase your intake of fiber.
6. Brew your own cold beverages. It means iced tea, of course. Nutritionists
suggest avoiding high-calorie soft drinks and sweetened juices by keeping
home-brewed iced tea in the fridge and serving with lemon. Iced tea has no
calorie or artificial ingredients, and provides beneficial phytochemicals.
7. Sip your minerals. Another beverage strategy is keeping mineral water on
hand and drinking it, with a wedge of lemon or lime, in lieu of caloric sodas.
Besides cutting calories, mineral water contains small amounts of calcium and
magnesium that add up with regular use. (But make sure your mineral water isn’t
also high in sodium.)
8. Switch from whole milk to low-fat or skim. If you’re already drinking 2% milk, see if you can make the change to skim. While it’s important to get dairy in your diet, whole milk also contains saturated fat and excess calories that you definitely don’t need. Research from the Women’s Health Study showed that increased intake of low-fat dairy products reduced the risk of developing high blood pressure; those consuming high-fat dairy, however, saw no similar benefit.
9. Take your coffee “black.” This means skip the cream and sugar. Dosing your coffee rather than sipping it straight is a prime example of “drinking your calories.” In moderation, caffeine has been associated with a range of possible health benefits — but any such pluses are quickly outweighed by the minuses of added calories. It is estimated that only about 35 percent of people drink their coffee black, which means the rest of us are starting the day with extra calories (33 from two teaspoons of sugar and another 20 from a tablespoon of half-and-half) and saturated fat (one gram per tablespoon of half-and-half). Can’t stand it straight? Try gradually shifting to 2% and then skim milk instead of cream.
10. Don’t put a salt shaker on the table. Fine restaurants often omit the salt shaker, reasoning that the chef has seasoned the food just right back in the kitchen. If you follow their example, you can remove some of the temptation to increase your dietary sodium intake. Too much sodium — and almost all Filipinos get too much in their diet — is associated with a risk of high blood pressure. One recent study found that even people who don’t have hypertension can benefit from a diet low in salt such as the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) eating plan, reducing their risk of heart disease and stroke.
11. Eat fish every Friday. Once a rule of the Catholic Church, eating fish instead of meat on Fridays (or whatever day of the week you chose) makes good nutritional sense regardless of your religion. Most experts advise eating fish — especially varieties like salmon, which is rich in omega-3s, twice a week, so designating one weekly “fish night” is a good start.
12. Cook in vegetable oil instead of butter. This simple switch can
slash your intake of saturated fat, which contributes to unhealthy cholesterol
levels and heart disease. Opt for monounsaturated fats like olive oil or
polyunsaturated fat like canola and soybean oil, which have the added advantage
of a higher “smoke point” than olive oil or butter.
13. Opt for nonstick pans. If you don’t need to coat the pan with oil to keep the food from sticking, you can use much less or leave the oil on the counter altogether. To minimize concerns about possible chemical emissions from nonstick cookware, choose heavier pans, keep temperatures under 500 degrees, and don’t preheat pans empty. For high-temperature cooking, good old cast-iron pans are virtually “nonstick” if properly seasoned.
14. Put your meat on a diet. Buying leaner cuts — along with trimming visible fat — avoids calories as well as saturated fat. The leanest beef cuts include round steaks and roasts, top loin, top sirloin, chuck shoulder, and arm roasts. The leanest pork cut choices include pork loin, tenderloin, and center loin.
15. Dress your salads lightly. A heavy hand with salad dressing, especially the creamy kind, can turn a “healthy” salad into an artery-clogging bowl of calories. Go light on the salad dressing, relying on more flavorful vinegars. Tossing the greens with the dressing in a salad bowl, rather than pouring dressing on top of greens on the plate, coats the greens more evenly while using less dressing.
16. Drain and rinse canned beans. One simple salt-fighting strategy is to drain and rinse canned beans before using. Processed foods are one of the biggest sources of sodium in our diet, so when you must open a can for convenience, get rid of as much of the added salt as you can. For instance, draining and then rinsing canned beans for 30 seconds under running tap water can reduce the sodium content by 43 percent.
17. Eat breakfast. Studies have consistently shown that people who eat a healthy breakfast are less likely to gain weight.
18. Put away the TV trays. Studies have associated higher levels of TV watching with a greater risk of obesity, and only part of that is due to couch potatoes’ lack of physical activity. It’s also partly because of mindless eating, not really paying attention to the food and savoring it. A good rule is to eat only in your kitchen or dining room.
19. Slow down. It can take 20 minutes for the food you eat to be digested enough for the glucose to enter the bloodstream and your body to start registering a sense
of “fullness.” Practicing mindful eating — pausing to really taste and savor
your food — can give your body time to give the “stop” signal.
20. Don’t expose yourself to excess. Sounds obvious. but it’s obviously not always adhered to. “All you can eat” buffets and other sumptuous spreads that offer a surfeit of choices encourage overconsumption of foods as well as beverages. It’s only natural to try “just a bite” of everything and all those bites add up. When
eating out, skip the buffet and order from the menu.

shopping tips
One of my friends is an awesome online and in-store shopper. She just knows when's the best time to shop, what store offers the best discounts and deals, and what sites to shop for cheapest finds. Last week, she was telling me to always check on online coupons before I hit the purchase button or check out my shopping cart. I actually do that and I find online coupons for for major department stores such as Walmart.com, Sears.com, Amazon.com, Macys.com, Gap.com, OldNavy.com, ChildrensPlace.com, etc. at GoGoShopper.com. But what I did not know and this tip I got from her is to bid for cheap and low rates gift cards at Ebay before doing any major purchase. Isn't that a great shopping tip, I am gonna do that on my next online shopping.

It seems like Summer and Fall will be very busy seasons for us. You see, my parents are coming over for a visit and our families our making sure to schedule most of their events when my parents are here. One of these events is a baby shower which Baby Invitations we got a few hours ago. The shower invitations look similar to the one in the photo except the wordings are the different. You see, invitation baby shower and invitations shower are something I look forward to. I got 2 surprise baby shower when I was pregnant with my son and I know the feeling of excitement to be part of it.

Litratong Pinoy #41 (Kandado)
Tila usong-uso sa ngayon ang may kandado sa mga pambabaeng bag. Minsan nga eh napakalaki ng kandado sa bag na parte na talaga siya ng disenyo. Tulad ng bag na ito.
(Women's bags with Padlocks on them have become to be fashionable these days. There are even designs that these padlocks are too huge to notice. Like this bag, a Chloe paddy)
Nagagandahan ba kayo sa mga bag na may kandado? Hudyat ba ito na ang bag na may kandado eh hindi rin mananakaw? Ano sa tingin niyo?
(Do you find purses with padlocks beautiful and trendy? Are these padlocks protection against thieves? What do you think?)

Maligayang LP! May isa pa akong lahok DITO.

stuck on the road.
Hubby was about to sleep when he got an emergency call from a friend asking him about auto body buena park. Apparently, this friend of hours got stuck on the road at almost midnight because his car conked out on him. Hubby had to make some calls for friends who were near our friend's car conked-out location. I think he's on his way home now.
Speaking of colision repair experts. AutoBodyBuenaPark.com is a network of auto body shops that has good feedbacks and ratings. Their number priority is to provide safety and assurance on their clients. For more information about this. Visit their site.

Litratong Pinoy #42 (Basa)
Masaya naming idinaos ang 4th of July sa Washington, D.C. :).
Our 4th of July weekend was well-spent and filled with fun and laughter. It was spent in D.C. with a couple friends. We were also able to visit the National Zoo which was enjoyed by our son and us too. The weather was fine, it was not too hot to be walking around D.C. In the National Zoo, you'd see lots of Mist Sprays which were enjoyed by us and the other tourists.

Maligayang LP! May isa pa akong lahok DITO.

Broadcast your Move.
![]()
I know of a lot of families here who move quite often because of changing work assignments. Some would even send out Announcements Moving Cards so their families and friends can cope up with their fast move.
When we moved here, I did not make or send out any moving cards but I simply made a moving announcement through email to close relatives and friends. Had I known of this announcements moving website which makes catchy moving announcements cards, I should have ordered a few and send out some to my friends and relatives. For more information about this website, you can check Announcements-Shoppe.com.
