am I ready?

As I have mentioned in my previous post, this week marked my last week of Spring Quarter in school. In fact, I just submitted my last final exams for this quarter a few hours ago. So I am going to savor my 1st weekend off-school by watching Revenge of the Fallen and spending some quality time with my boys. In the middle of this week, I got a call from the Dean's secretary requesting me to come in for a meeting. We are going to plan my career options as well as how I would go through with the rest of my subjects and the directed research project aka THE thesis. So as I was telling hubby about the scheduled Dean's meeting, he asked me if I am ready to work fulltime next year. Maybe I think I am but let's just cross the bridge when I get there. For now, I am just thankful that my previous employer has armed me with enough trainings such as Microsoft training to be equipped to apply for new jobs. You see, being competent in the computer most especially Microsoft application is very important to be able to get the job that you want. If you think you lack this kind of training, you can visit My.Learn.Com for tips and offers on how you could improve your computer skills.

Food Friday #1

This is my first time to join Food Friday :).

I chose this photo because I am craving for this Taco Bell's Large Taco Salad. But since, I am on a diet, I might just look at this photo and not give in to my craving. Do not be deceived by this salad as this caused my weight gain for the past month. Hubby has been bringing this home religiously on a daily basis.

Thanks for checking!

5 lbs down the drain! back again!

June 25.

Gosh, this day proves to be a grieving day for fans of our most favorite 80s icons. I guess by now, everyone of you heard the passing of Farrah Fawcett this morning and after a few hours, the king of pop, Michael Jackson also passed away due to a heart attack. Farrah Fawcett has been battling cancer for many years now but the death of the king of pop was a surprise because it was such a sudden death. I have seen footages and photos of the last few photos of the king of pop. Also, I have seen a photo of the helicopter that transported Michael Jackson in another hospital. Speaking of helicopters, do you know that they have specialized helicopter lawyers who take care of all helicopter accidents. So if ever you need representation on a helicopter incident/accident, you might want to check HelicopterAccidentAttorney.com for legal representation. Also, you can visit their site for some education information on helicopter accidents.

Going back, these 2 deaths simply remind everyone of us that we must not take life for granted. We should be thankful for each day and live life to the fullest because we'll never know when the angel of death will visit us.

9 Best Skin Foods.

I chanced upon this from Kathy's Blog. I just have to share it here before I check on this Rochester medical malpractice attorney.

I have mentioned in my beauty blog that no amount of make up can compensate with a beautiful skin. So, it is very important to care for our skin. For me, sleep and water are the best things you can provide your skin with. And yes, a happy and worry-free life too! Check out the best 9 skin foods below:

1. Low Fat Yogurt - Low fat dairy products are full of vitamin A. This essential vitamin does wonders for our skin. If you have a thyroid problem or diabetes that’s another reason for you to stock up on organic law fat yogurts!

2. Berries - I am talking about plums, strawberries, blueberries and blackberries. These berries have a great antioxidant capacity which means - the more of these we have, the longer our skin will look youthful and healthy!

3. Salmon - Our skin needs essential fatty acids. If fish isn’t your thing, try walnuts, flax seed or canola oil. All these will give you an amazing result! Omega 3 and Omega 6 may sound like a Sci-fi flick, but these fatty acids are a must for a beautiful, well moisturized skin.

4. Green Tea - This drink contains polyphenols which have anti-inflammatory characteristics. And despite what they say, a good tea will not dehydrate your body, it will only work as an anti-oxidant and an anti-inflammatory agent that’ll keep bacteria at bay and will fight off those free radicals that make our skin age early.

5. Water - Did I even need to mention it? :) Good hydration is our skin’s best friend, right? And I’m talking about good bottled or filtered water in its purest form and not sodas or energy drinks. So ensure that you’re getting at least 8 glasses of water a day for your beautiful skin.

6. Avocados - Avocado is rich in B-complex vitamins and essential oils and works like an anti-inflammatory agent. It also soothes skin that is red, irritated or blotchy. You can even mix it with yogurt and berries to add some flavor!

7. Mangoes - Yum! I’m glad this one’s on the list. Lots of vitamin A is in store with this skin do-gooder! This fruit will repair your skin cells so that your skin doesn’t look flaky. It has only 70 calories per serving so it’s ideal for your weight loss program as well.

8. Almonds - Vitamin E helps to moisturize your skin from within. It also protects your skin from damage and premature aging. Eating almonds can help your facial tissue stay in its best shape for years!

9. Cottage Cheese - Apart from calcium, cottage cheese is great for selenium and it’s an essential mineral for a youthful, glowing skin, Ladies!

online recipes

Before our big move, my mom taught me every little recipe she thinks hubby would love for me to cook. I spent weeks and weeks helping her out in the kitchen trying out old and new recipes. She was very patient to teach me and answer every little cooking or baking querries I asked. Then, on the day of our departure, she gave me 2 little notebooks filled with her own recipes written by her. I treasure those notebooks up to this day. Gawd, I miss her sooo much.

I have mentioned before that my mom is my ultimate idol when it comes to cooking and baking, she just moves and works differently in her kitchen. All of her previous clients as well as close friends and relatives would boast about her talent in cooking and baking. I may know a few of her cooking tricks but I am far when it comes to her output. I swear, she just had some major God-given talent. Anyways, I have been trying out some new recipes but again, I am too busy to post them on a daily or even weekly basis. Hubby and our son are very kind enough to never fail but give me compliments each time I try out a new dish. If you are getting bored with my recipes of the week (insert shy smile :)), you might want to visit EFoodDepot.com for new recipes and 4500 various ethnic food products. All of their products are shipped with a flat rate of $4.99. They carry major food products from Asia, Indian, European, Middle Eastern, South American. No need to visit specialty cooking stores. Everything is right in your computer :). Also, they have a wealth of recipes, 4000 recipes for various food dishes to be exact. No signing up needed. All you need to do is just visit their site and browse to all of their pages. Have fun in your cooking and let's exchange recipes ok?

2.Do you react okay to drugs your doctor gives you when you have an infection or a condition?
+ Yes, So far no allergies nor major reactions on medicines.

3. Have you ever had a bad experience/allergic reaction to any drugs you’ve been given by a doctor?

Survey says...

In a few weeks from now, I would be meeting my adviser for the final DRP or Directed Research Project simply called as THE Thesis for my final topic. It has to be approved by him, my professor and the Dean. Tools on how to conduct the research will also be discussed and looks like my thesis will require an Employee Survey type of research tools. I know it would be very time consuming but that would be the best way on how I could come up with a good thesis. Anyways, as early as now I have been checking on some other topics just in case my 1st choice of topic would not get any approval. I have been surfing other literature and chanced upon Inquisite. This site actually offers some survery assistance services and offers survey technology for those who are looking to do their own surveys which include internal market researcher or employee review team by utilizing their Inquisite tool and softwares. Since my thesis will be a just a school thesis, I would not be utilizing this service but if you are looking for affordable survey assistance service, this is a very nice site to check on.

Vinegar for the kitchen and etc...

Got this article from Alpha which she swiped from the Vinegar Institute. If you are going green at home, Vinegar is a very nice alternative to other cleansers. Read the rest of the entry below:

1. Streakless windows:
Simply wash with a mixture of equal parts of white distilled vinegar and warm water. Dry with a soft cloth. This solution will make your windows gleam and will not leave the usual film or streaks on the glass.

2. Clean the microwave:

wood cutting boards: Wipe with full strength white distilled vinegar.

fruits and vegetables.

14. Get rid of cooking smells:
Let simmer a small pot of vinegar and water solution.

kitchen haven.

I can get very organized and somewhat bordering to being an O.C. when it comes to the kitchen cleanliness. I could not sleep without cleaning up our undermount sinks and the kitchen floor. I have this weird thinking that if I do not clean them before I sleep, I'd end up waking up into a pool of insects and flies eeew :). Anyways, kitchen sink is where I concentrate more on my cleaning. As we were looking for an apartment a year ago, the kitchen sink was just one of the few things I meticulously checked on. Speaking of undermount sinks, there are 2 kinds of these sinks, the basic undermount stainless steel sink line and undermount granite sink, which obviously is my favorite. When we decide to build our house, I'd definitely get a granite undermount sink at MrDirectint.com.

ideal pre-wedding gift

I have mentioned a couple of times here that I am so excited about a friend's wedding in Chicago. I have witnessed how their love grew and have even played cupid in some part of their relationship. So you know, that this happy ending will be culminated into a very intimate yet elegant wedding next fall and I love weddings especially if the bride or the groom is close to my heart. I was thinking of giving them an advance Chicago couples massage as their prewedding gift. When hubby and I got married, we got a lot of this from friends and we loved it. Just perfect to ease out the pre or post wedding stress :).

Happy Monday!

Lasang Pinoy #35 (Happy 1st Bday Lapis!)

It's Lasang Pinoy's 1st Birthday and what better way to celebrate it is by posting photos from my Son's 1st Birthday.

Here are photos of his birthday cake and the cake maker. You can view the rest of the photos on that very happy event in our lives as family HERE.

Meet the cake maker, my mom, my idol in baking and cooking :).

Again, Happy 1st Birthday Lasang Pinoy :).

tomorrow.

I am a bad wifey! I have totally forgotten that it is Father's Day tomorrow, I really do. I was too busy the entire week and if my friend did not give me that call last night, I would miss Sunday without greeting hubby who gave me something from this jewelers site during mother's day! Yay! I guess, I'd just cook up something on Sunday because it would be too late to buy him a surprise gift. That is also quite impossible because hubby and I are always together :). Oh well, I hope holsted jewelers sells some men's accessories so I could get hubby a gift. To all Fathers, Have a good one on Sunday!

surprise me.

When hubby dropped me off earlier this morning, he was smirking. I asked him what it was and he just said secret. He knew I already checked our debit card balance online (which I do on a daily basis) and I knew he made some purchases. I totally forgot about it when I got home today. I went home earlier than him and voila! There were 2 furniture in our 2-floor town home. They were not something splurgy but they were something we really need for the longest time :). Okay, now I can say for the nth time that yes my hubby is really good at finding home furniture and decors. I just love both of his purchases. You see, I already mentioned that we are preparing the home for family visitors in the fall season. They are going to spend their holidays with us and we are just extremely excited. I would often find hubby checking model units at Atlanta remodeling and he would jot down his own ideas as well as tips from this site. If you need any remodeling service in Atlanta, you can check out their site for more tips and information on how you could enhance your homes.

business financing

There is a lot of business ongoings with my twitter and flickr friends. You see, it started as favors to buy imported stuff from here for friends back home. Until a twitter friend started to check out designer bags on sale in the outlet stores and that was when the commotion began :). You know how women can't have enough of bags and how much more when these bags are designer bags and they were on huge mark-down sale. I had a chance to talk to one of the sellers and she shared with me that sometimes it could be really tiring to do business. Good thing though, as she is a person who is so good with business Finance because of her background. In fact she told me how she organized all her orders in an electronic system and it will do all the computations for her. Then she will just have to email her buyers with individual invoicing. Speaking of business financing, you might want to visit businessfactors.com for quick solutions on invoice factoring, accounts receivable financing, equipment leasing and other financing tips. I guess when my friend’s business grow bigger someday, she would be needing these services from Business Factors.

Lasang Pinoy #34 (A-lcohol)

When hubby prepares dishes on our "special" dinners at home (aka DVD marathon, catching up with our televisionshows, etc...), he always makes it a point to pair the dish with liquor or any alcoholic beverage :).

Thus, Red Wine goes well with his steak.

Happy Lapis and Have a good weekend everyone!

summer is here!

Lately, I have been seeing a lot of people doing major activities outdoor. Some are having picnic in the park, camping right outside of their homes, playing ball sports and in our neighborhood, a huge house even set up airsoft/paintball arena. They were even kind enough to invite a few people within the neighborhood and included in the invite not to bring any airsoft guns because they have already. Apparently, hubby was too busy at that time so we declined the invite. I would love to play airsoft since I got to experience playing it back in Manila. I wish this neighbor of ours set up another airsoft get-together and I will surely block off that date :).

Overseas...

A friend recently got into a long-distance relationship with her husband. I can somehow relate with what she is feeling right now because hubby used to have provincial assignments back then. However, hers was a much more emotional separation because the contract of her husband will last for 2 years, no vacation. By the time he goes home to his wife, their daughter would be 2 years older, that is a lot of milestones for toddlers and kids. Anyways, I know that they always chat online but I think she would appreciate this YupeePhone because of the affordable plan and free minutes. I better tell her about it now as Yupee Phone does not come with a contract. I hope though, she hangs on and that their sacrifices will pay off in the end :).

Litratong Pinoy #40 (Pangarap Ko)

grocery shops!

Do you enjoy grocery shopping the way you do when you shop for clothes, bags and accessories or any other of your fashion must-haves? I don't know with you but I love grocery shopping and when I'm there I overshop! No wonder there are grocery trips were hubby wants me to be left behind at home and he'll just bring our son in tow. Hmmm, now I know! It is also true what they say that never go to the grocery with an empty or gurgling stomach because you will end up buying snacks and food you do not really need.

Since I love to cook and eat, I tend to buy as many kitchen must-haves and cooking stocks as much as possible. Isn't it just annoying to find out that you are in the middle of cooking a sumptous meal and you end up with an incomplete pantry yay! I do not want to rush to any grocery in the middle of my cooking. Anyways, speaking of groceries, I love grocery stores which have very nice shelvings and glass showcases because it makes grocery trips very easy. Also, I love grocery stores that have Letter labelings for grocery item categories especially if the store is huge, that would make it easy for customers to find what they need to buy. These shelvings and glass showcases can be found at Mfried.com. The brand they carry is Gondola. Apparently, it's one of the top line in terms of shelvings and glass showcases. Check out the site for more information. And yea, I hope the walking-distance grocery store in our neighborhood get these Gondola Shelvings so they would get more customers. We end up going to the better but farther groceries because of their poor shelvings. I hope they read this haha! How about you, which grocery shop do you frequent?

Kitchen Drools!

When I saw this kitchen inspiration entry from decorology.blogspot.com, I knew I had to share it here as well. So let's check it out :).

First, this sleek white and stainless kitchen corner is just great for modern and minimalist homes. This hint of purple kitchen caught my eyes not only because if was purplish but also because it looks very homey and warm :). And of course these neat kitchen clutter-organizer ideas are so simple yet very useful.

to do list.

Whew! I am just half of my to do list for the day. I was not supposed to be going out today but my Russian classmate asked me to accompany here as she buy baby gifts for a friend. After that, we are meeting our Professor for a coffee. We just adore her so much that we make sure to meet her at least once a month. Anyways, I wanted to suggest to my friend that she would rather check out the customized baby gifts at BabyNest.com instead of buying in stores. Also, it would be very convenient on her part as it would be delivered straight to her friend's home. So we could save time and catch up with each other, instead. I wonder if that would be amenable to her. I should give her a call now.

4th of July escapade.

So I got hubby's quick answer to our 4th of July Meet-up with a twitter friend, Glo :). It's a yes for us! We are definitely going to celebrate our 2nd Independence Day in D.C. Of course, this would be our 1st time to experience the amazing fireworks there and I am just super excited about it. Since, it will be a long drive, err not really long for us, we are having our Lexie tuned up and auto-charging services similar to those audi turbo. However, hubby is still looking at the possibility of renting instead, as he does not want to over drive Lexie. Whichever we decide on, I am just extremely excited to meet Glo over going to D.C. haha! You know this is probably my 4th time there but a 1st July 4 visit.

Happy Weekend Everyone!

Lasang Pinoy #33 (Resto-Rant)

do you trade?

No matter how many times hubby explains to me the ins and outs of stocks options trading, I still find it hard to comprehend stocks investments. I do not know if it has to do something with my lack of interest in Mathematics. However, some friends who have only basic knowledge in stocks can make high returns on their stocks investments. Do you know how? Because they use an online tool called PowerOptions® which gives internet-based support on their trading. PowerOptions could be found at poweropt.com and it is the only internet-based data provider that gives investors SmartSearchXL®, a patented decision support technology that identifies the highest return option trades.

RECIPE OF WEEK: Hot Chocolate Drink from Tablea Recipe

Photobucket

P1010975

I am craving for a yummy hot chocolate drink made from Tablea. The ones that hubby made in New Year was A-Ok but it wasn't exactly the one that my mom used to make on a New Year's eve. So I checked out some recipes online and by far this one I got from PinoyFoodBlog is promising :). I also discovered that adding all-purpose cream in your hot chocolate mix. I could just imagine how much Fenphedra I would be needing after several cups of this yum-o beverage!

1. For every 1 pure tablea (no sugar or milk added), combine with 1 cup water (225 ml).

When you buy tablea at the supermarkets, read the fine print at the back to check if it is really pure tablea and does not contain sugar or milk powder

2. Add the tablea and water to the tsokolatera. Don’t add milk or sugar.

3. Once the chocolate mixture starts to boil, swirl the batirol with the palms of your hand. If it gets too hot, just twirl the batirol. Lower the flame as it starts to foam.

Using the batirol to mix the chocolate will ensure smooth consistency of your drink

4. Continue mixing for 15-30 minutes depending if you like the consistency to be medium thick or thick.

Remember tablea is not instant chocolate so don’t expect consistency to occur in just 10 minutes

5. Once ready, pour into cups. Mix sugar and milk as desired. Serve with suman sa ibus or Suman Flavored with Ginger. Dipping my suman into the chocolate drink is absolutely perfect and nothing beats the aroma of hot tsokolate.

As a variation. mix half of the hot chocolate drink with 1/2 cup of brewed coffee. My daughter loves this combination.

Fred&Friends Finds: Saltside Out

destination wedding spread

When I watched the much-celebrated wedding of Judy Anne Santos and Ryan Agoncillo, I could not helped but be amazed by their breakfast spread and very well-thought music. Everything about their wedding is just spectacular and very unique. You see, I always believe that destination weddings go the extra mile in terms of preparation because it is indeed too hard to plan a wedding, much more if you are going to hold it in an outdoor venue. I was also amazed that they still managed to hold it in the Local Church and proceeded to the beachside venue which required a 3-hour boat-ride. Such a beautiful wedding indeed :).

four foods on friday#36

Fun, Crafts and Recipes

#1. Mashed potatoes. Do you usually buy the boxes, the frozen or make from scratch.
>>>Used to make from scratch but the one in boxes are better tasting than my own lol!

#2. Cottage cheese. What kind do you like? (large curd, small curd, 2%, 4%, no salt, etc)
>>>Large curd with salt.

#3. Is there a food that you are brand loyal to?
>>>Yes. My son's mac & cheese should always be Kraft and a whole lot other of foods. I'm the kind of grocery shopper who buys the same stuff each week. Although, hubby is the one who likes trying new brands.

#4. When cooking do you usually use fresh onions or the ones from the spice aisle that are chopped or powdered?
>>>Fresh!

check your roof!

A friend was just telling me that they had some people from Pennsylvania roofing contractors to check on the leakage in their roof. Apparently, it has been raining in their are and the leakage has been on and off. They only notice it everytime it rains. Now, that they have been hit with some strong rains, they have no choice but to have it check and guess what, the leakage has already worsen. Hubby always tells me to check any our roof for any leaks during rainy season, because you can only check on this when it rains. FOODIEWEDNESDAY @ Wifespeaks: Kitchenomics Tips

This is a repost. I am the blog contributor on today's edition of FoodieWednesday at Wifespeaks.COM.

Food is probably the biggest chunk in every household budget pie. We would often hear the saying: “Tipirin mo na ang lahat ng bagay, huwag lang ang pagkain.” I honestly support this statement because after all, food is our life, food definitely keeps us alive.

Being away from the Philippines for 1.5 years now without any household help that would help me in making sure I serve the best and healthiest complete meals to my boys, I have learned some ways to cut cost in terms of kitchen expenses. One way would be cooking dishes in large quantities. Not only would I be able to save on ingredients and electric expenses (or gas, if you use gas in your stove/oven), I also get to save some precious time. However, I am pretty picky when choosing what dish to cook in large quantities because not all dishes tend to taste good if not better as they aged or reheated. So, what dish tends to taste best as it aged and gets reheated and reheated? ADOBO!
do you put eggs on your adobo? Look at the chicken o-i-l!

Coast Vacation rentals.

A dear online friend and I had an impromptu EB getaway arrangement. It started out when she had a dream of watching fireworks in D.C. on the 4th of July and so she began looking for accommodations and vacation what nots. And since the place is just a few hours drive from where we are, my next goal was to convince hubby who was very quick to say YES. I know we had to postpone a trip with the in-laws as they were planning for some Oregon coast vacation rentals and Oregon coast lodging getaway to make way for this impromptu trip.

You see, hubby is one busy guy and he could not spare too many vacations in a month. However, I am still keeping my hopes high because the Lincoln city Oregon vacation rental his family were looking to reserve for our Summer getaway is quite promising and very inviting, so I'm still crossing my fingers on that. Also, this Oregon Coast Vacation get away has Pet friendly rentals Oregon services which a few cousins who are pet-lovers would really enjoy :). For now, I can't wait for 4th of July!
